How It Works

Three steps to set-and-forget archiving

No plugins, no manual downloads, no scheduled syncs. Link once and videoArchiver handles the rest.
Link Your Ring Account
Sign in with your Ring account via secure OAuth. We request only the permissions needed to read your camera clips.
Connect Cloud Storage
Authorize videoArchiver to save to your Google Drive (Dropbox and S3 coming soon). Your clips go directly to your cloud.
Automatic Archiving
Every time your Ring camera detects motion or a doorbell press, videoArchiver streams the clip to your cloud. No action needed.

Security

Your footage stays yours

videoArchiver never stores your clips. Every piece of data is encrypted, isolated, and logged.
  • Encryption in Transit
Clips stream over encrypted HTTPS from Ring to your cloud and are never stored on videoArchiver servers.
  • HMAC-Verified Webhooks
Every Ring event cryptographically signed. Signature verified before processing, rejecting forged events.
  • Token Encryption
Ring OAuth tokens encrypted with AES-256-GCM before storage. Decrypted only when fetching clips.
  • Session Isolation
Tokens are scoped per account. Each account only accesses its own Ring data.
  • Event Logging
All clip transfers logged with timestamps and status. Full visibility into what was archived and when.
  • Automatic Token Rotation
Ring access tokens refreshed before expiry. Expired tokens rotated securely with no user intervention.

Compare

Don't let your clips expire. See how videoArchiver compares.

Ring Solo keeps clips for up to 180 days and charges per device. Manual IFTTT workflows are fiddly and fragile. videoArchiver archives every clip to your own cloud, automatically, on a free tier that never expires.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about videoArchiver.
What Ring devices are supported?
All Ring cameras and doorbells that produce motion-event or doorbell-press clips are supported, including Ring Video Doorbell (all generations), Stick Up Cam, Spotlight Cam, Floodlight Cam, Indoor Cam, and Peephole Cam. If your device appears in your Ring app timeline, videoArchiver can archive its clips.
Where are my clips stored?
Your clips are archived directly to your personal cloud storage — currently Google Drive. Clips are never stored on videoArchiver servers. We stream them in-memory from Ring to your destination. Dropbox and Amazon S3 support are coming soon.
How secure is videoArchiver?
videoArchiver uses Ring's official OAuth integration, HMAC-verified webhooks to prevent forged events, AES-256-GCM encryption for stored tokens, and TLS for all data in transit. Clips never touch our servers — they stream directly to your cloud. Full architecture is publicly documented on our Architecture page.
What does videoArchiver cost?
The Free tier covers 50 events per month per device at no cost — no credit card required. For users who need more, the Pro tier ($2.99/device/month with unlimited events) is coming soon via the Ring Appstore. Your cloud storage costs are separate and determined by your cloud provider (e.g., Google Drive's free 15 GB or any paid plan you already have).
What are the free tier limits?
The Free tier allows up to 50 motion events or doorbell presses per device per month. For a single doorbell, this typically covers a reasonable amount of daily activity. You can track your usage from the dashboard. Pro tier (unlimited events) is coming soon.
How do I cancel?
For the Free tier, simply disconnect your Ring account from the dashboard — no cancellation needed since there's no subscription. For Pro (when available), cancellation will be managed through your Ring Appstore subscriptions. Your already-archived clips remain in your Google Drive regardless.
What happens if Ring changes their API?
videoArchiver uses Ring's public OAuth API, which is the same interface used by Ring's own apps and other approved integrations. While no third-party can guarantee API stability, our architecture is designed to adapt. More importantly, all clips already archived to your Google Drive are safe regardless — they're in your cloud, not ours. If API access is ever disrupted, you keep everything that was already saved.
